The remains of the late matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief (Mrs) HID Awolowo, will be laid to rest today, November 25.
Mama Awolowo, the wife of the first premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, died at the age of 99 on Saturday, September 19, as preparations for her centenary birthday were in top gear.
The matriarch who would have clocked 100 years today will be buried beside her husband in Ikenne, Ogun state.
HID Awolowo will be the second prominent Yoruba personality in recent times to be buried on their birthday.
The Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), which was founded by her late husband Chief Awolowo in the Second Republic, held a farewell programme for her yesterday, describing her as a true mother for all.
President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be attending the burial ceremony.
Osinbajo, who is an in-law of the Awolowos arrived at Ikenne, yesterday, while the president is expected to do so today.
