The senate today received the Interim Report of The Ad-Hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North East. In the report, the committee indicted the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, of awarding contracts to a company which he has links to.

Babachir is in charge of the Presidential Initiative on North East PINE.

At a public hearing in October, the committee heard of how a company was award a contract of N270 million just to clear grasses at IDP camps. The committee in its report, stated that it discovered that most of the contracts were bogus and awarded to government officials or their associates. Dino Melaye who spoke during the deliberation, called for the resignation of Lawal.
